Our canopy and shade work covers aluminum-frame dock canopies, boat lift covers, tiki huts and tiki bars, and shade sails, built new or replacing a structure that's reached the end of its life. That includes custom sizing to your dock or lift, frame fabrication, canvas or roofing installation, and electrical for lighting or fans where wanted.

Protecting Your Investment

A boat, its upholstery, and its electronics represent a meaningful investment. Constant UV exposure fades gelcoat, cracks vinyl and canvas, and shortens the working life of anything electronic mounted topside.

Materials & Construction

Canopy and shade structures in a saltwater environment need materials suited to the conditions, not standard hardware-store components. Crocker builds with marine-grade aluminum framing, which resists the corrosion that steel and lower-grade aluminum succumb to quickly this close to saltwater.

For roofing and walls, we offer solid aluminum panel roofs, marine-grade canvas and vinyl tops in a range of colors, and traditional or synthetic thatch for tiki huts and bars. Synthetic thatch costs more upfront but holds up far longer than natural palm thatch in Southwest Florida's sun and humidity, and doesn't need periodic replacement the way natural thatch does.

Every structure is built to current wind-load standards for our region, with hardware and fasteners rated for coastal exposure. We design each canopy or tiki structure around your specific dock and lift dimensions rather than fitting you to a standard kit.

Choosing the Right Shade Solution for Your Dock

Not every dock needs the same shade solution. Which one makes sense usually comes down to what you're covering and how you use the space:

• Boat lift cover — the simplest option, sized to your specific lift, protects the vessel without covering the rest of the dock
• Aluminum canopy — a permanent, low-maintenance roof over a lift, walkway, or seating area, built to current wind-load standards
• Tiki hut or tiki bar — the most involved option, a genuine outdoor living space with a bar, seating, or entertaining area built in
• Shade sail — a lighter-weight option for partial coverage over a smaller area or an irregular-shaped space

Maintenance & Lifespan

How long a canopy or tiki structure lasts depends mostly on the frame material and roofing choice. An aluminum frame with a solid panel roof needs very little upkeep beyond an occasional rinse and a check of fasteners after storm season. Canvas and vinyl tops need periodic cleaning and, eventually, reproofing or replacement as the material ages under UV exposure.

Tiki huts built with synthetic thatch typically outlast natural palm thatch by several years and require less maintenance in between. Natural thatch has a warmer, more traditional look but needs more frequent inspection and eventual re-thatching as it weathers.

Whichever material you choose, we build every structure to be inspected after major storms the same way we'd recommend inspecting a dock or seawall — a quick check for loosened fasteners or wind damage goes a long way toward avoiding a bigger repair later.
